Student InternshipsCurrent Internships at the National Immigration Project
Legal InternshipsLegal interns at the National Immigration Project during the academic year assist our staff by taking on projects involving legal research, writing amicus briefs, writing comments on proposed immigration regulations, responding to letters for incarcerated noncitizens, providing technical assistance to lawyers or legal workers around the country (depending on experience), organizing and participating in legal and legislative strategy sessions via conference call on pending issues at the national level, and more. All of our work is focused on immigration law and is carried out via email, listserv, telephone, and fax. We serve as a national immigration legal back-up center and do not provide direct service to clients at our office. Hours are flexible, although we ask for a minimum commitment of ten hours per week from academic-year legal interns. We give preference to law student applicants with a completed immigration law class and with additional experience in immigration law. For legal internships, all cover letters, resumes, and writing samples, as well as any questions, should be emailed to Ellen Kemp. Communications InternshipsCommunications interns at the National Immigration Project during the academic-year assist our staff by supporting initiatives such as producing a membership news bulletin, researching immigration topics and interviewing experts, writing articles, layout and design of our Annual Report, writing press releases, expanding the organization’s list of media contacts, and maximizing the organization’s public outreach and marketing efforts, including web-based social marketing and social networking tools. For communications internships, all cover letters, resumes, and writing samples, as well as any questions, should be emailed to Pamela Goldstein. Resource Development/Fundraising InternshipsResource Development/Fundraising Interns at the National Immigration Project during the academic year assist our staff by supporting initiatives designed to strengthen the organization’s financial base. Interns help identify, research, and locate new and existing sources of funding under the mentorship of the Director of Development and Communications. This position’s role includes tasks as diverse as researching like-minded organizations across the U.S., helping solicit and compile a program book for a high-end reception, improving the organization’s knowledge base of individual and foundation supporters, assisting with fundraising trainings, and working with the Board of Directors. For resource development/fundraising internships, all cover letters, resumes, and writing samples, as well as any questions, should be emailed to Pamela Goldstein. |
